7 Days Educational Tour of Ghana

DAY 1:  Akwaaba! Welcome to Ghana

You will be met on arrival at the airport by our team, assisted and transferred to our partner hotel. There will be a short welcoming briefing.

DAY 2: Accra City Tour    

Depart for a sightseeing city tour of Accra. Visits will include Jamestown also known as British Accra, located directly east of the Korle Lagoon. Jamestown and Ussher town are the oldest districts in the city of Accra and emerged as communities around the 17th century on the Coast of the Gulf of Guinea. Today, both Jamestown and Ussher town remain as fishing communities, inhabited primarily by the Ga’s. Attractions to see will include James and Ussher Forts, the Light House and the Fishing Harbour.

Continue to Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum, the final resting place of the first President of Ghana. Next door is the Arts and Craft Bazaar where you can shop for a wide range of items ranging from textiles to handicrafts. You will make a short stop at the Independence Arch and Square, the official ceremonial grounds for national celebrations and Christiansborg Castle in Danish Osu, built in 1660s by Denmark-Norway to `listen to the political history of Ghana. Return to the hotel and spend the rest of the day at leisure, overnight.

DAY 3: Accra – Sesemi – Accra

This morning you will experience Accra and its environs as you enjoy a guided tour of the University of Ghana, Legon, Ghana’s Premier University. It is a distinctive building of Japanese architectural design set amongst elegant tree-lined gardens and constructed in 1948.

Continue to the Ga village of Sesemi near Abokobi to visit Frederiksgave Slave Plantation. The plantation served as a typical colonial plantation, which experimented with various crops like coffee, sugar, tobacco and wine, but with poor outcome. It was later on turned into a health resort for ill Danish public servants from Christiansborg Castle.

Continue with a visit to the Du Bois Centre for Pan African Culture. The centre is a complex of four major buildings which include the home of Dr. DuBois, an administrative building, the Marcus Garvey guest house and the tomb of Dr. DuBois and his wife Shirley Graham Dubois. Return to your hotel and spend the rest of the day at leisure.

DAY 4: Accra – Tafo – Accra

Enjoy an education tour to Tafo in the Eastern Region of Ghana to learn about Ghana’s Cocoa. Drive through the scenic and quaint villages of Akuapem with a brief stop-over at Aburi Botanical Gardens established in 1890. At Tafo, you will visit the Cocoa Research Institute and learn about the processing of cocoa from planting through harvesting to production of chocolates and other cocoa products. The various species of cocoa and their uses will give you an insight into the product. The tour will take you through the model farm as you will enjoy this experience.  

Return to Accra with rest of the evening free, dinner and overnight.

DAY 5: Accra – Kakum – Elmina 

After breakfast, you will visit the Kakum National Park. The attraction is a canopy walkway that is made up of seven bridges extending 330m hanging 40m above the forest floor, offering you what is truly a bird’s eye view of the rain forest. There are mammals but don’t expect to see them as they are known to be extremely elusive.

Continue to Elmina and visit the Elmina Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage Monument built by the Portuguese in 1482. It is the first trading post built on the Gulf of Guinea, making it the oldest European building in existence below the Sahara. Listen to the stories of the infamous slave trade. Return to your hotel and spend the rest of the day swimming, beach combing, horse riding, crocodile watching or simply at leisure. Dinner and overnight

DAY 6:  Elmina – Anomabo – Accra

Free morning

Depart Elmina for Accra with a brief stopover at Anomabo to visit Fort William. Completed by 1757, the fort was erected on an eroded shelf of hard rock close to a sandy beach indentation with a sheltered anchorage. This fishing village is also dotted with some posuban shrines.

Return to Accra, overnight.

DAY 7:  Departure

Free morning

You will be transferred to the airport for departure formalities at scheduled time.

DAY 3: Accra – Sogakope

After breakfast, depart Accra to sogakope with a with a stopover at Vume Pottery Village. The women of this village engage in traditional pot making which was passed unto to them by their forefathers. Proceed to Keta and check in at Holy Trinity and Spa, dinner and overnight.

DAY 4: Sogakope – Keta – Sogakope

After breakfast, depart Sogakope for Keta to visit Fort Prinzenstein, an 18th Century fort built in 1784 by the Danes and played a significant role in the Trans-Atlantic slave trade. You will also experience the tour the Keta Township and have interaction with its wonderful people. With the help of the guide, you will visit the Keta market and see some historic buildings and their significance. Return to Sogakope and spend the rest of the day at leisure, dinner and overnight.

DAY 5: Sogakope – Accra 

After breakfast, depart Sogokofe to Accra with a stopover at the University of Ghana. Enjoy a guided tour of the University of Ghana, Legon, Ghana’s Premier University. It is a distinctive building of Japanese architectural design set amongst elegant tree-lined gardens and constructed in 1948.

DAY 6: Accra – Adukrom – Accra

Today after breakfast, you will visit the Asenema Waterfalls in Adukrom. It is one of the hidden gems in the rainforest of the Akuapem Hills, outside of Accra, and north of Aburi. Continue to Akropong and visit the Akuffo Heritage Home. It is an ancient building which holds the memories of the legendary king, Nana Kwasi Akuffo who was married to 62 wives out of which he had 127 children.

Return to Accra with a stopover at a Aburi Botanic Gardens, a miniature Kew garden of Britain in Ghana built by the British in 1890 as a sanatorium. The century- old Botanical Gardens offer a rich collection of diverse flora. Return to Accra, dinner and overnight.

DAY 7:  Departure

Free morning

You will be transferred to the airport for departure formalities at scheduled time.
